Program Mission:
The Local Hazardous Waste Management Program in King County (Program) is a multi-jurisdictional program whose mission is to protect and enhance public health and environmental quality throughout King County by reducing the threat posed by the production, use, storage and disposal of hazardous materials.

Legal Authority & Governance:
The authority for the establishment of the Program comes from Washington State law (RCW 70.105.220) that required local governments, either individually or jointly, to develop and implement a plan to address hazardous wastes. Our Program is implemented through a “Management Coordination Committee” (MCC.) The MCC is enabled by the King County Board of Health (BOH Code 2.08). It is also recognized as the Program governing entity by the Washington State Department of Ecology. The MCC sets the strategic direction and the implementation policies for our Program. It operates through the consensus of its five members, which are drawn from each of the Program Partners listed below.
