Environmental Quality Team and Businesses

The Environmental Quality Team, or EQT, works with businesses to ensure that hazardous materials and wastes are managed to reduce the risk of human and environmental exposure. The EQT is a multi-agency work group comprised of staff from the King County Water and Land Resource Division’s Hazardous Waste group and the Environmental Health Division of Public Health--Seattle & King County.

EQT outreach efforts focus on reducing or eliminating risks posed by hazardous materials and wastes in environmentally sensitive areas. Specific areas of concern include:

  • soil and water contamination posed by businesses on septic systems
  • groundwater contamination posed by the improper management of hazardous materials or wastes in wellhead protection areas
  • surface water contamination posed by the improper management of hazardous materials or wastes in flood hazard zones.

Through technical assistance visits and other services, businesses learn how to properly manage their hazardous materials and wastes. To schedule a technical assistance visit, contact the Business Waste Line at 206-263-8899 or 1-800-325-6165, ext. 3-8899, during business hours.
