On-site Assistance
One-on-one site visits from staff of the Local Hazardous Waste Management Program in King County provide businesses with specific information about managing their hazardous chemicals and complying with regulations.
Businesses may find it difficult to translate general guidance on waste management into site-specific practices. For that reason, on-site technical and regulatory assistance is a key component of the program's outreach to businesses. By walking through a company's site, trained field staff can identify potential problems and offer practical solutions.
On-site technical assistance visits provide businesses with the following:
- site-specific information about current best management practices
- information about regulations governing the handling and disposal of small quantity generator, or SQG, hazardous wastes
- a monetary incentive (Voucher Incentive Program) to assist in the management of SQG hazardous waste
- a recognition incentive ( EnviroStars program) giving businesses public recognition for waste reduction and pollution prevention
- information and training for business-related groups and associations about methods to improve the handling of SQG hazardous waste
- informational support to trade shows, business seminars, industry staff meetings, business publications and trade journals concerning the management of SQG hazardous waste
