Low Income Government Housing

The program’s work with Local Government Housing Authorities is part of a larger objective to improve services to vulnerable and historically underserved populations. Program staff provides direct outreach services including facility inspections, training on best management practices (BMPs) and problem solving to help reduce exposure to hazardous substances and generation of hazardous waste by staff and residents.

Some examples of work and services provided include:

  • Development of policy that would remove all mercury-containing devices within residential units owned by the authority.
  • Addressed staff pest control issues, while stressing the importance of adopting and implementing integrated pest management (IPM) practices.
  • Provided training to housing staff, and attending residential safety fairs.
