This mobile service operates on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from March to October. The roving Wastemobile will be back in operation in March 2013.

How to Use it

Bring your household hazardous waste to the roving Wastemobile collection event in your area. Check the roving Wastemobile schedule (listed above) to see when it will be in your area. See what you can bring, what NOT to bring, and how to safely transport hazardous materials and make your drop-off safer for you and the program staff.

Limits on quantities of waste and other restrictions

The following restrictions apply at all the household hazardous roving Wastemobile collection events:

  • No latex paint
  • gasoline - 30 gallon limit
  • total waste - 50 gallons per customer per day
  • container size – no larger than five gallons
  • fluorescent tubes or bulbs (not accepted from businesses) – limit 10
  • automotive batteries. – limit 5

For larger quantities or unusual wastes (except Factoria), call the Household Hazards Line, Monday to Friday, except holidays, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at (206) 296-4692 or toll free at 1-888-869-4233. For the Factoria HHW Drop-Off Service, there are no exceptions to these daily limits.

Information is available on what happens to the hazardous waste once it is collected at the roving Wastemobile or the other collection sites.

Service Costs

The roving Wastemobile is funded through a surcharge on solid waste disposal and wastewater discharge. As a result, residents bringing material to the roving Wastemobile are not charged a fee on site. This cost premium underscores the importance of making waste prevention our top priority.

Safe Handling

  • Don't mix products.
  • Keep products in their original containers. (At the Factoria household hazardous waste drop-off site, gasoline containers are not returned to the customers.)
  • Label products that aren’t in their original containers.
  • Secure products so they can’t tip over and/or leak.
  • Transport similar, sealed containers upright, in cardboard boxes.
  • Secure the load in a vehicle or trailer. Vehicles arriving at public or private transfer stations in King County with unsecured loads can be charged an unsecured load fee.
  • Store products away from the passenger compartment and separate waste products from those that will be retained.
  • Stay in the vehicle while waste is unloaded at the Wastemobile and the Auburn Supermall Wastemobile.
