Prevent problems before they appearSeal openings. Any hole larger than the end of your pinkie finger must be closed using materials that rodents cannot chew through.
Remove food and nesting materials. Keep food, including pet food and bird seed, in rodent-proof containers.
Manage problems wiselyTrap rats and mice. Trapping is the safest and most effective method. Use snap traps in secluded areas and keep away from areas used by children and pets. Place them in usual travel ways, such as along walls. Be careful with baits. While they can be effective in managing rats and mice, baits may also poison pets, so they are safest if used in bait stations. Rodents may die in areas that are hard to reach, such as within walls, which creates an odor problem.
